Columbus Garden Club Events
FUNdraising Events Open to the Public
Columbus Garden Club has many activities in which we support gardening and nature education and community beautification. But we also have scholarship fundraising events that are always FUN. These events are open to the public and are a great way for non-members to support our scholarship fund. The more funds, the more scholarship recipients we can support to help local youth further their education and pursue their dreams. Here are our annual FUNdraising Events in chronological order:
-
Scholarship Quilt Raffle - A generous club member creates a quilt and donates it for a raffle. CGC members sell raffle tickets from September through mid-December when the drawing happens at the end of the Christmas Tasting Luncheon.
-
Christmas Tasting Luncheon - Held the 2nd Wednesday of December in lieu of our regular club meeting, this event is a potluck in which the public are invited to RSVP for attendance to enjoy the food and participate in the silent auction including Mistletoe Bags raffle drawing.
-
Plant Sale & Bake/Casserole Sale - Held the last Saturday in April, many Columbus residents look forward to supporting our scholarship fund by buying plants, taking home a frozen homemade casserole or baked goodies, or buying raffle tickets for the Scholarship Wagon chock full of garden-related goodies from the awesome heavy duty wagon itself to garden décor, seeds, tools, and more.
Member Events
Members receive emails and information at our meetings about all sorts of educational and social activities as well as work days for our community projects. But in addition to these opportunities for fellowship, service, and fun, the Garden Club organizes the follow major events that do not have fundraising aspects (in chronological order):
-
CGC Flower Show - In November, our club hosts its own garden show for members to submit a wide variety of entries from cut flowers or plants to potted flowers or plants to garden-inspired art. The public is invited to enjoy the flower show as well. The event is free to enter for members and to attend for all.
-
Pilgrimage - Usually in mid-April or May, a field trip is organized to visit a garden, nursery, flower show, or other event outside our area. Recent trips took us to Victoria and another to Houston. The membership votes in January or February on what the pilgrimage will be.
-
Officer Installation Luncheon - Our officers have 2-year terms. During odd-numbered years, this event happens 2nd Wednesday in May at the last meeting before the Summer break. It is a celebration of our accomplishments for the year and in honor of our new officers that are installed after the pot luck luncheon. The event is extra special because the organizing committee usually chooses a theme such as Cream Tea where you can dress up extra fancy.
