Texas Arbor Day
On November 12, 2025, following the monthly Columbus Garden Club meeting, members gathered on the Colorado County Courthouse Square to celebrate Texas Arbor Day by planting of a Southern Magnolia in memory of Lynda Counts.
Lynda was an exceptional club member who "brought the club into the 21st century" as many of today's members recall.
Lynda’s daughter, Kim Counts Lynch, and her husband, Jim Lynch, were in
attendance to witness the dedication of the planting site. Club members gave prayers of thanks and shared memories as well as a poem well-suited for the occasion and for Lynda's legacy.
Colton Bubela of Bubela Tree Farm and Arbor Care prepared the ground and planted the beautiful Southern Magnolia.
Planting in November will give the tree its best chance to provide decades of beauty on the historic town square.
The official Arbor Day observance will be in March/April 2026 so that the event will qualify for National Garden Club awards which require it be held on a date in January through April.

Thanks
Many thanks to the 2025 Texas Arbor Day Committee: Karen Payne (chair), Wanda Anglin, Velma Harrington, and Ida Sivley for their collaborative effort to plan the tree planting ceremony ceremony.
