Christmas Tasting Luncheon & Fundraiser

This fun event is held the 2nd Wednesday of December in lieu of our regular club meeting. The event is a potluck that we all invite our friends, family, and local supports such as the Chamber of Commerce to. Note all guests must RSVP by the 1st Wednesday in December to ensure we have enough food for all.

In addition to a delicious lunch and acknowledging our special guests, we prepare the following scholarship fundraisers at the luncheon event.

Silent Auction

Members collect donations of items for the auction from family, friends, and community businesses. The items may be new or gently used. The Silent Auction committee organizes the items on tables with a bid sheet next to each item. During the social time before and during the luncheon, attendees bid on items by filling in a line on the sheet. When the close of the auction is called, the last entry (the highest bid) is declared winner of the auction.

The committee collects the sheets organizing them in order of winners as often one winner will have bid and won several items. Then the winners pay the Treasurer and then collect their items. And the scholarship fund grows!

Mistletoe Bags Ticket Raffle

Members collect all sorts of items from their homes, or from family and friends. These are gift-quality items, nothing too worn, but most are previously owned. Popular donations include collectibles, candles, gardening tools and supplies, home décor, bath gifts, etc.

The Mistletoe Bag committee organizes smaller donated items into collections such as putting a hand cream, candle, and cute tea towel together. The items are organized on a table with a paper bag next to each item.

Attendees purchase raffle tickets to "bid" on the Mistletoe Bags by dropping 1/2 of a ticket into the paper bag next to the item they wish to win. When time is called on the raffle, a winning ticket is drawn from each bag and the winner uses the kept portion of the ticket to claim their item.

Scholarship Quilt Drawing

The final raffle tickets are sold during the luncheon and following the meal, closing of the auction, and Mistletoe Bag drawings, the lucky winner of the Scholarship Quilt is announced.

Sometimes the winner must wait to receive their quilt because our talented member who makes the quilt may be invited to enter the quilt in the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo competition! Examples of previous quilts raffled below.
